"If I don't forgive then am not a good leader....I forgive because my strength lies in my believe in the Almighty Allah"

"If we don't forgive each other, then how would the Almighty Allah forgive me as a leader of this country?"

The President of the Republic, His Excellency Sheikh Professor Alhaji Dr. Yahya AJJ Jammeh Babili Mansa has declared that he has turned a new page but warned that the first person to stain the page will pay the ultimate price. President Jammeh was addressing thousands of celebrants on Wednesday afternoon at the Arch 22 in Banjul during a parade marking 21 years of the glorious July 22 Revolution, where he made a surprise pronouncement to pardon six categories of convicted prisoners who are serving jail terms ranging from murder, treason, rape, drug trafficking and arm robbery as well as Gambian dissidents living abroad, whom he said have for the past 21 years been criticising him, lied against this country and called him all sorts of names. As Muslims and as good Christians, the President said the holy Quran and the Bible taught us about forgiveness.

For The Gambia, our homeland, we strive and work and pray,
That all may live in unity, freedom and peace each day.
Let justice guide our actions towards the common good,
And join our diverse peoples to prove man's brotherhood.
We pledge our firm allegiance, our promise we renew;
Keep us, great God of nations, to The Gambia ever true.
