President Jammeh Reaffirms to Transform The Gambia into City State

The President Sheikh Professor Alhaji Dr. Yahya Jammeh has again spoken of his desire to transform The Gambia into a city state. The Gambian leader was addressing a mass political rally at Ebou Town in the Kanifing Municipal Council on the second leg of his dialogue with the people tour.

The Gambian leader said he is not out to make name but solely to improve the living conditions of all Gambians. In this regard he warned people to be mindful of detractors and avoid being lured away by negative outside propaganda. He renewed his call for Africans and Gambians in particular to work hard and take charge of their own destiny.

President Jammeh acknowledged and lauded the unflinching support of the people of KMC to the APRC party since 1994. He promised to provide them with more social amenities - electricity, water supply and good roads.Meanwhile President Jammeh has pledged to sponsor the construction of a mosque in Ebou Town.

Speaking earlier the Minister of Water Resources and National Assembly Matters Lamin Kaba Bajo dwelled on the rapid developments taking place in The Gambia under President Jammeh and therefore called on Gambians to vote massively for him in the 2011 election.

The Minister of Interior Ousman Sonko for his part urged people to work with law enforcement agents in ensuring peace and security in the country. He also called for concerted efforts in the fight against drug trafficking and abuse.

The Minister of Information and Communication Infrastructure Alhagie Cham reaffirmed the President's resolve to make The Gambia a city state. He revealed plans for the installation of optic submarine cables to connect The Gambia to Europe for speedy and reliable communication.

The Youth and Sports Minister Sheriff Gomez also spoke of President Jammeh's commitment to youth empowerment citing the establishment of skills centers and other youth projects. He therefore advised youths to work hard and stay away from drugs.

The Mayor of KMC who is also the APRC National Mobilizer Yankuba Colley, and a host of others commended President Jammeh for his leadership qualities and achievements. As part of the event President Jammeh donated over four hundred thousand dalasi to the school children and over one hundred thousand dalasi to families of prominent personalities who passed away recently in the Jeshwang constituency.

Over a hundred UDP supporters defected to the APRC at the rally which was graced by the Vice President, Ministers, Security Chiefs, Local Government Authorities and foreign dignitaries.
