The leading private GSM operator in The Gambia, Africell on Tuesday donated Tele-prompt and a threshing machine to His Excellency the President Sheikh Professor Alhaji Dr Yahya Jammeh at State House. The Tele-prompt is worth US$10,000 and is used by American leaders including President Barrack Obama.
Presenting the machines, the Managing Director of Africell, Mr. Badara Mbaye, said they had come to thank the President for all the support accorded their company to operate in a smooth environment.
Mr. Mbaye commended President Jammeh for coming up with brilliant ideas which, they at Africell emulate for success. In 2009, he noted, his company embarked on projects geared towards empowering girls' education. He revealed that by next year, his company would introduce a lot of surprise packages which are development oriented and the biggest surprise would be the 3G technology for their customers.
The Minister of Basic and Secondary Education, Fatou Lamin Faye, expressed appreciation and her amazement by Africell's contribution towards the development of the country. She congratulated them on fulfilling their corporate responsibility.
Africell, Minister Faye stated, has touched on so many lives in various ways that the public cannot now afford to miss their presence. Minister Faye went on to say that the company has offered immense help in the education and agriculture sectors which is a manifestation of a reliable company.
She thanked them for this efficient donation of machines which will no doubt further boost agriculture. All these efforts, she said, are geared towards eradicating poverty and that it is the only way forward. She therefore urged the company to continue their collective team spirit for a common goal.
On receiving the donation, the President, Sheikh Professor Alhaji Dr. Yahya Jammeh, said he is not surprise of the achievement made by Africell being the pioneers of private GSM.
"I am always proud of them; their marketing strategy is in computable. When people were skeptical Africell was bold enough to operate and others followed; they are the gate opener and now the company is a household name in The Gambia."
President Jammeh thanked Africell for the presentations of both the threshing machine and the tele-prompt and said the threshing machine will be useful to women and that it will encourage agriculture. He observed that business is a mutual benefit and that is all about always coming up with new products.
