Government hard on the findings of Tax Commission
7th June 2012

PRESS RELEASE

Following the recent report of the Tax Evasion Commission, the Office of the President hereby informs all business proprietors and individuals who have not paid Capital Gains Tax and all other taxes to do so immediately in order to avoid prosecution and possible jail term. Another Commission of Enquiry will soon be set up, to probe tax evasions from 1999 to 2012, covering all such evasions not dealt with by the recent Tax Evasion Commission. Civil servants are however exempted from this probe, since their taxes are directly deducted from their salaries.

Furthermore, it has come to the notice of the Office of the President, that some people sell their properties in foreign currency. This must stop immediately. All those engaged in this practice should pay Capital Gains Tax or the transfer of such property to land owners will be nullified and the perpetrators prosecuted.

The general public is therefore advised to comply, and anyone found culpable will face the full force of the law.
