More foreign diplomats present letters of credence to president jammeh

12th November 2009

His Excellency the President, Sheikh Professor Alhaji Dr. Yahya Jammeh, last Thursday received more letters of credence from the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Federal Republic of Germany at State House in Banjul.

The first to present his letter of credential to the Gambian leader was the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, His Excellency Abdel Aziz Ben Mohamed Al-Ayfane.

Speaking to the press shortly after presenting his letter to the Gambian leader, Ambassador Ben Mohamed Al-Ayfane hailed the relationship between the two countries and reiterated the special relationship between the Gambian leader and His Excellency Abdel Aziz Ben Mohamad Al-Aytane the leader of Saudi Arabia.

For his part, His Excellency Ambassador Christian Clagres of the Federal Republic of Germany, in an interview with waiting reporters shortly after presenting his letter, expressed gratitude to the Gambian people for their hospitality, which he said is a common characteristic of the peoples of the two countries.

When asked about whether there are possibilities of reviving The Gambia German Forestry Project, which phased out since 2006, Ambassador Clagres expressed appreciation of the idea but said he would have to look into the possibilities of the project's revival.

He however said there will be a continuation of bilateral relations in projects such as the Darfur peace operations
