4 ambassadors present letters of credence to president jammeh

The Gambian leader, His Excellency Sheikh Professor Alhaji Dr Yahya A.J.J. Jammeh on Monday received ambassadors of various countries in the country who were at State House to present their letters of credence.

They include the Indian High Commissioner to The Gambia, His Excellency Nagesha Roa Parthsarathic; the Sudanese Ambassador, His Excellency Khalid Muhammed; the Pakistani Ambassador, Muhammed Abdul Mateen Khan and High Commissioner of South Africa, His Excellency Segogwane Sam.

First to present his credentials was His Excellency Parthsarathic of India. Speaking to reporters shortly after the presentation and audience with President Jammeh, High Commissioner Nagesha said India and The Gambia have a warm and cordial relationship, adding that he had been in The Gambia for twenty-five years and that he has observed steady progress and development in the country.

Ambassador Parthsarathic expressed his resolve to strengthen the cordial relations between the Republics of The Gambia and India through formulating projects, technical cooperation particularly in the areas of higher education, health, agriculture, industry, investment among others.

The Sudanese Ambassador Khalid Muhammed for his part, told journalists he had discussed with the President ways and means of strengthening the bilateral relationship between the two countries.

These, he said, include political and diplomatic cooperation between the Foreign Affairs ministries of the two countries and cooperation in the areas of the economy, agriculture, health and education.

The Parkistani ambassador, His Excellency Mr. Muhammed Abdul Mateen Khan, said he had discussed effective ways of strengthening cooperation in the areas of agriculture, health, education, training of engineers and investment opportunities. He expressed good impressions about the long standing relations between the Republics of The Gambia and Pakistan and pledged his desire to promote a booming business industry in the country.

His Excellency Segogwane Sam Kotane of South Africa, who was the last to present his said his discussion dealt on student exchange programs, diplomatic trainings, transportation, investments both in the government and the private sectors. He said his priority as the ambassador to The Gambia is to maintain the bilateral agreement between the two countries.

He made reference to a dormant project in the area of broadcasting, initiated by his predecessor and therefore expressed his resolve to ensure its effective implementation.
