The President Dr Alhaji Yahya Jammeh has arrived
in Banjul on Saturday from Guinea Conakry where he attended the
fourth Summit Meeting of the Authority of Heads of State and government's
of West African Monetary Union WAMU.
Formed recently by Ghana, Sierra Leone, Liberia,
Nigeria, Guinea Conakry and the Gambia, the Union among other
things aims at harmonising the economies of member countries as
well as establish a single currency by the year 2005.
Speaking to the press shortly after his arrival
at the Banjul International Airport President Jammeh expressed
total satisfaction over the out come of the summit, noting that
the Gambia has been able to meet all the requirements of the Union.
He however spoke of the need for more sensitization
on the new "ECO" currency before it comes into effect. President
Jammeh also used the occasion to reiterate his government's resolve
to put the Gambia's economy on strong footing.
He was meet on arrival by the Vice President,
Secretaries of State, Members of the diplomatic Corps and Senior
government officials.
