The President His Excellency Sheikh Professor Dr. Alhaji Yahya Jammeh Friday received the prestigious award of the Grand Doctorate of Philosophy in International Relations and Diplomacy from the International University of Fundamental Studies in St. Petersburg, Russia, in recognition of his outstanding services to humanity.

The award was conferred on President Jammeh by Dr. Eugenio Caligiuri, Vice Rector of the University at a ceremony held at the State House in Banjul .

Receiving the award the President Sheikh Professor Dr. Alhaji Yahya Jammeh said the award is a victory for the people of The Gambia and the Government. The President expressed gratitude and thanked the International University for the award. He reiterated his commitment to stand by the truth and to promote the welfare of the Gambian people and humanity at large.

Speaking on the efficiency of his Herbal Treatment Programme, President Jammeh noted the programme is meant to provide hope to the hopeless at no cost. The President stressed the need for peace building, describing it as an indispensable factor for socio-economic development.

Dr. Eugenio Caligiuri said the International University of Fundamental Studies is aware of the development initiatives President Jammeh is engaged in and his commitment to security and peace in Africa. Dr. Caligiuri noted that President Jammeh had worked diligently for the benefit of the Gambia and humanity in general.

Dr. Caligiuri reiterated his institution's faith in the Presidential Herbal Treatment Programme, and described President Jammeh as a genuine leader who is out to help the poor and needy.

Dr. Lee Kwok Leung - senior member of International Parliament for Safety and Peace congratulated and thanked President Jammeh for his resolve in the promotion of peace across the globe.

The Minister of Justice Edward Gomez and the Chief Justice Emmanuel Agim spoke at length on President Jammeh's commitment to international peace and the improvement of the lives of Gambian people.
