President Jammeh receives Honorary degree award

20th February 2008:

Jean Monnet European University based in Brussels has awarded President Jammeh Honorary Degree in Herbal and Homeopathic medicine. According to the citation the award is in recognition of President Jammeh's breakthrough in the treatment of HIV/AIDS, Asthma and other diseases. The Honorary Consul General of the Gambia in Italy Professor Francisco Cristina presented the certificate to the Gambian leader at a ceremony held at State House.

Speaking on the occasion President Jammeh thanked the University for the Honor. He also used the opportunity to disclose his ability to take care of a major health problem-obesity as well as the discovery of a sexual stimulant for men. Dr Jammeh explained that his treatment programme is not geared towards making money but rather as he put it ‘'to ease the suffering of humankind''.

Since the start of the treatment programme thousands of patients have been cured from diseases ranging from HIV/AIDS, Asthma, Hypertension, Diabetes and infertility among others free of charge. President Jammeh described the award as ‘' a big surprise'' recalling the number of negative criticisms he received from the Western Media but said that he's now been vindicated.

The Vice President Aja Isatou Njie-Saidy applauded President Jammeh for raising the prominence of African medicine. The Secretary of State for Health Dr Malick Njie on behalf of the Medical fraternity conveyed heartfelt appreciation to the authorities of the University. The Secretary of State for Communication and Information Technology Neneh Macdouall-Gaye said the President's success in curing HIV/ AIDS has helped eradicate the stigma and discrimination associated with the disease. The Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs Crispin Grey-Johnson joined his colleagues in felicitating President Jammeh noting that his ability to cure such diseases is worthy of commendation. SOS Grey-Johnson himself a beneficiary of the President's treatment programme lauded Dr Jammeh for demonstrating the effectiveness of African Traditional Medicine which produces results and saves lives. The Director of the Presidential Treatment Program Dr Tamsir Mbowe expressed similar sentiments.
