President Jammeh receives Kentucky Colonel award
28th May 2008

Citation

Your Excellency:

I respectfully present my compliments and greetings, and have the honour to enclose a commission as a Colonel from the Governor of Kentucky, being the highest of honour of the State of Kentucky.

It is hoped that your Excellency will excuse my taking the liberty to nominate You for this award to the Governor, on the basis of Your great and internationally admired achievements as President of the Republic of The Gambia, and Your distinguished military career, and contributions to African/US relations.

Enclosed also is a copy of my musical composition, a song entitled “Progress, Peace, Prosperity”. The work expresses, through stirring music and in its words, a celebration of both Your Excellency's leadership of The Gambia, and the role of the highest Office of President.

I am aware that The Gambia has a wonderful National Anthem, “For The Gambia Our Homeland”, based on a traditional Mandinka melody. However, many nations, such as the United States of America, also have a Presidential Anthem. If my humbly work meets with Your Excellency's kind approval, I would be most deeply honoured if you would accept its dedication, and consider its use as Your own Presidential Anthem, when appropriate occasion for its performance may arise.

With deepest respects, I have the honour to remain, Sir,

Your Excellency's obedient servant,

Robert J. Nixon
