president jammeh meets batigroupe officials

His Excellency, the President Professor Alhaji Dr. Yahya Jammeh Thursday morning held his fifth meeting with representatives of Batigroupe, a Senegalese consortium company that has kick started, with approval from government, an agricultural project designed to improve all year round production in the country.

Dairou Jallow, the General Manager of Batigroupe told reporters shortly after meeting the Gambian leader that the agricultural project is getting off smoothly and intends to give farming a whole new face, as his firm will help in the marketing of Gambian produce.

Jallow also disclosed to reporters that plans to put the country on satellite is in high gear and installation works, according to him is set to start in 15 days. This project, Dairou said in an interview, will broaden access to The Gambia's broadcasting services, put the country at per with other competitive telecommunication services and sell the country's image more effectively to the international world. He however, declined to comment further on the issue, noting government will divulge information on the package when it is deemed necessary.
