5th May 2005:

Dr Kamal Shaddad executive member of CAF, the Confederation of African Football, and president of the Sudanese FA is at the head of the CAF delegation attending the CAF Under 17 Continental Football finals in Banjul May 7 through 22.

The CAF officials along with officials of the West African Football Union (WAFU) were received by President Yahya Jammeh at State House in Banjul last Thursday.

Speaking to reporters after meeting the Gambian leader, Dr. Shaddad announced that CAF president Issa Hyatou could not attend this 6th edition of the championship, as he was hospitalised due to ill health.

"We thanked President Jammeh for the infrastructure and facilities put in place for the tournament, especially the hotel accommodation and transportation, all of which shows his personal commitment to sports", he added.

They observed during their meeting with President Jammeh, he said, that "he is not only interested in winning, but interested in building solidarity among African youths".

Dr Shaddad went on to emphasise that fair play during the tournament must be observed. GFA president Alhaji Omar Sey accompanied the CAF delegation to State House.
