cds general lang tombong tamba presents farm produce to president jammeh

The Chief of Defence Staff Major General Lang Tombong Tamba on Thursday donated ten bags of groundnut and two bags of paddy rice to the Jammeh Foundation for Peace. The foundation in turn donated the items to the Presidential Treatment Program. The items were presented to the Founder and Chief Patron of the foundation, the President Professor Alhaji Dr. Yahya Jammeh at a brief ceremony held at State House.

During the ceremony, the Commanding Officer National Guards Battalion Colonel Biran Saine also presented three bags of rice to the President as his unit's contribution to the President's Treatment Program.

Speaking on the occasion, Professor Alhaji Dr. Yahya Jammeh Commander-in-Chief of the Gambia Armed Forces thanked the CDS Major General Lang Tombong Tamba for being a good role model. He also thanked the Commanding Officer of the Guards Battalion for the donation. Professor Jammeh further announced a one million Dalasi prize for the best horticulture to be launched and awarded on his birthday on 25th May. This is geared to encourage military camps to engage in horticulture for their consumption as well as generate income.

The Vice President Dr. Isatou Njie-Saidy who is also the chairperson of the National Security Council thanked the leadership of the Gambia Armed Forces for their loyalty. She urged them to keep up the momentum and assured them of the President's continued support.

For his part, the Chief of Defense Staff Major General Lang Tombong Tamba said the donation was meant to complement the President's efforts noting that he alone cannot do it all.

Lieutenant Colonel Serign Modou Njie Commander of the State Guards Battalion used the occasion to commend the chief, Alkalo and community of Sohm for providing them a farm land as well as their remarkable support.
