The President Professor Alhaji Dr Yahya Jammeh has praised Gambian Christians for being God fearing, loyal citizens and a good example for humankind. The Gambian leader made the remarks Tuesday when the heads of the Christian denominations in The Gambia called on him. The Gambian leader said he'd followed the court cases in 2008 but not a single Gambian Christian had been taken to court and convicted. He therefore thanked the Gambia Christian Council and heads of the various Christian denominations for a job well done.

He assured them that under his leadership, government would ensure that the country's religious tolerance is maintained. Professor Jammeh also reaffirmed that his government would have zero tolerance for religious intolerance and further warned that any religion that preaches hate has no place in The Gambia.

The Vice President Dr Aja Isatou Njie-Saidy also commended the Christian community for their remarkable contribution to nation building. She told them that government values their support and cooperation and assured them of government's continued collaboration.

The Chairman of The Gambia Christian Council Reverend Bishop Robert Ellison assured of the Gambian leader of their commitment to work with government to safeguard and promote religious tolerance as well as the attainment of development goals.
