His Excellency Sheikh Professor Alhaji Dr. Yahya Jammeh, reaches out to the Christian community on the joyous occasion of Christmas with a handsome donation of cash and foodstuff.
It was again an outburst of generosity and benevolence from the Gambian leader, this time targeting the Christian community on the festive occasion of Christmas. He dished out a staggering sum of D135, 000 to the 24 participants featured on the Gambia Radio and Television Services education programme - 'Nyuni Neenla' on Christmas Eve.
The programme as highlighted by the Director General of the Gambia Radio and Television Services, Alhagie Momodou Sanyang, discusses topical issues affecting our lives as Gambians. He referred to the episode aired on Christmas Eve, featuring this group as very educative and successfully presented the very ideals of Christmas activities as practiced in the early history of Banjul.
The Director General of the national broadcaster also thanked the group for the time taken to be part of the programme to educate the masses on TV. This, he said must have impressed the President, who out of his generosity decided to boost the morale of the invitees as well as the host of the programme with a cash donation. Pa Joof, a retired educationist, described the donation as a surprise and noted that they were only fulfilling their civic duties. It however, never occurred to them that the outcome will be just as rewarding.
The President also donated to the Christians in the country a truck load of over 400 cartoons of turkey, estimated at over 1,269 pieces of processed meat.
The donation was received by the Managing Director of the Gambia Groundnut Cooperation, Toni Cavarlho for onward distribution. Courtesy of GRTS's Abdou Njie
