The Commonwealth Secretary General Don Mckinnon
has commended the Gambia for its contributions to ECOWAS integration
programme and other regional issues. Right Honourable Don Mckinnon
was speaking to reporters on Wednesday at State House after having
audience with President Alhaji Yahya Jammeh.
He told reporters in Banjul that his discussion with President
Jammeh centred on wide-ranging issues, which includes difficulties
being experience in international trade and the role of the Commonwealth
in this sector.
Mr. Mckinnon disclosed that the commonwealth intend to help member
states to meet their commitment in the fight against terrorism
under the UN Security Council resolution. He also said that the
Gambia has benefited from Commonwealth assistance in the area
of agriculture, education and the Judiciary.
In Another engagement
Two Secretaries of State and five divisional commissioners on Wednesday
receive Mitsubishi Pajero Vehicles each, donated by President Jammeh.
The Vice President of the Republic Aja Isatou Njie Saidy presented
the vehicles on his behalf to the receipients at State House.
Secretary of State (SOS) for information, communication and Technology
Dr. Amadou Scattrell Janneh and the Agriculture Secretary Dr.
Sulayman Mboob were the two beneficiary SOSs.
Speaking at a brief presentation ceremony, the Vice President
urged the beneficiaries to make proper use and regular maintenance
of the vehicles. The Secretary of State for Youth and Sports Samba
Faal, overseeing the department of Local Government and Lands,
thanked President Jammeh for the gesture. SOS.
Hon. Sulayman Mboob and the Commissioner for Central River Division
(CRD), Momodou S. Njie also thanked President Jammeh for the gift.
Messrs Mboob and Njie said the donation demonstrates the President's
commitment towards the welfare of Gambians.
