The President Dr.Alhaji Yahya A.J.J.Jammeh on Wednesday received a prestigious medal from Pedro Kouri Institute of Havana,Cuba. The honours medal was presented to him by the Cuban Ambassador to the Gambia at a ceremony held in Banjul.

President Jammeh described the award as a surprise as well as an honour for Gambians. He acknowledged the immense contribution of the Cuban Medical team to the Gambia's health sector. The Gambian leader therefore thanked the Cuban President Fidel Castro and his government for their services to the development of the Gambia.

The WHO representative to the Gambia, Dr.James Mwanzia Praised the Gambia government for its commitment to the development of the country.
