MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

As Director I was responsible for the following:

  • Policy formulation;
  • Forestry Planning and Programming;
  • Capacity Building of the Forestry Department;
  • Project Identification, design and implementation;
  • Negotiating donor funding for the Forestry programme;
  • Liaison officer to International organization, bi-lateral and multi-lateral funding agencies and NGOs for the Government on forest issues;
  • Financial and general office administration;
  • Public awareness and participation in problem identification and solution implementation.
1991 -1998: Chief of Forests and other Ecosystems, Senior Programme Officer, P5 level at United Nations Environment Programme, (UNEP)

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Take part in policy formulation and substantive activities related to the UNEP programme regarding forests, mountains and other ecosystems
    for sustainable development;
  • Develop and update workplans, as well as targets of the UNEP programme regarding forests, mountains and other ecosystems for sustainable development;
  • Supervise the preparation and monitor the implementation of projects concerned with supporting measures for sustainable development of forests and mountain areas such as training, guidelines, methodologies and publications;
  • Act as focal point for forests, mountains and other ecosystems for the purpose of liaison with the United Nations Headquarters and other United Nations agencies;
  • Co-ordinate all actions required in the implementation of co-operation with agencies of the United Nations System, supporting organization and governments;
  • Make preparations for ad-hoc expert group meetings and supervise drafting of documents;
  • Represent environmental interests in technical and substantive meetings;
  • Resource Mobilization for projects;
  • Designing projects for GEF funding;
  • UNEP GEF Committee;
  • Participating in the Intergovernmental Panel on Forests Processes;
  • In-charge of all Intergovernmental negotiations within the UN system;
  • Represent UNEP in the Scientific and Technical bodies of the Conventions (CCD, CBD)
  • Provide leadership for the Biodiversity programme of UNEP;
  • Advise UNEP on CGIAR matters and in particular, the relationship with centres (ICRAF, CIFOR, IPGRI, CIT, CATIE, etc);
  • Represent UNEP as observer to the Board of Directors meeting of ICRAF, CIFOR, ICIMOD
