The senior management staff of the Department of State for Works and Infrastructure, led by the Permanent Secretary, Lamin Sanneh on Monday paid a courtesy call on President Yahya Jammeh following the transfer of the Works portfolio to the Office of the President.
Speaking at the occasion, President Jammeh told the staff to turn a new page in nation building. He stated that he is not out to witchhunt anybody and urged them to be honest and sincere in their responsibilities. “I accept mistakes but what I don't like is for somebody to do things deliberately. All of us should join hands to develop this country. What has happened has happened under a different administration. I will give all of you the benefit of the doubt”, he said.
“If you think you are not paid according to your qualifications and you are not satisfied leave. Laisser faire attitudes will not be accepted in the Department of State. So you have a choice to work peacefully or resign”, he added.
President Jammeh decried the sub-standard quality of the roads at Sting Corner, the Kombo Coastal Road, and the Brikama Highway which he said fell below expectations.
Addressing the gathering, the Vice-President, Aja Dr Isatou Nije-Saidy urged them to be sincere in their work in the interest of the nation and to desist from things that will find them wanting.
Secretaries of State, Yankuba Touray , Bala Gaba Jahumpa and Ismaila Sambou who also spoke at the ceremony called on the staff to utilize their expertise to the best of their ability in the interest of all Gambians.
For his part, Lamin Sanneh, the Permanent Secretary Department of State for Works, who led the delegation, assured President Jammeh that they will go all out to deliver their very best. “We will be very committed and loyal to the best of our abilities”, he declared. |
