10th November 2003:

In yet another humanitarian gesture, the First Lady Madam Zeineb Jammeh has donated several hundred bags of rice and sugar to many social institutions across the country. The consignment was handed over to the beneficiary institutions at a brief ceremony at State House on Monday, attended by the Vice President, Secretaries of State and Senior government officials.

In a brief statement on behalf of the government and the beneficiary institutions in particular the Vice President Mrs Isatou Njie-Saidy, applauded the gesture, describing it as a fulfillment of a religious injunction and a demonstration of the virtues of caring and sharing. "The gift have come against the background of the advent of the holy month of Ramadan, which makes the time all the more significant," the Vice President underscored.

The recipients include the Royal Victoria Teaching Hospital, the Serrekunda and Fajikunda health centres, the Psychiatric hospital and the Jammeh Foundation for Peace Hospital.
