President Yahya Jammeh has expounded on the need for discipline in the Armed Forces, both in the public and private life of every officer, noting that it will not be compromised within the ramifications of the military.
Addressing Security Chiefs at State House last Friday during the launch of the new National Security Uniforms for the Gambia National Army and the Gambia National Guards, President Jammeh reminded various commanding officers to be mindful of the fact that Junior officers and men of the security, emulates them in everyday life- whether good or bad.
The Lance corporal looks to Corporals and the Private looks up to the Senior private. In the Army, the Junior man looks up after the Senior person. So anything you do either good or bad, one of the soldiers is bound to emulate you. So in the Army, you have to maintain discipline. Discipline should be maintained in the Armed Forces as the success of any Armed Forces squarely depends on discipline. This is why discipline cannot be compromise in the Armed Forces. Therefore, it should be maintained at any cost.It does not matter whether the person is a marksman, so he can misbehave, no! A soldier must be disciplined or he or she has no place in the Armed Forces. So, you have to incorporate discipline in the hearts and minds of every person in uniform, he advised.
President Jammeh then pronounced that discipline in the Army will not be compromised and then urged the Gambia Armed Forces to be proud and confident as military is a unique and noble job that goes in tandem with discipline.
He then hailed the Gambia Armed Forces for the good image they shown internationally, saying as you excels internationally, we will also motivate you as well. This is because, up to today, there is no advance report of any misconduct of Gambian troops in international operations. You are the true Ambassadors of The Gambia. Anywhere you go, you still maintain the spirit of getting your aims. Today, despite all what has been said of the AU Troops in many countries, The Gambia is praised and I want to thank GAF for that.
President Jammeh then advised the officers to always take up their responsibilities seriously, tell the truth and always show positive comportment.
