The President Alhaji Dr. Yahya Jammeh has received three cheques amounting to five hundred and fifty thousand dalasi from Gamtel/Gamcel Staff Association. The money generated through a fund raising concert by Senegambian artist, Yousou Ndure is earmarked for Operation Save a Baby, the President's Women's Empowerment project as well as President Jammeh's Herbal Treatment Program.

Mattresses, bedsheets, chairs and 10 television sets worth over one hundred thousand dalasi were also presented to the Gambian leader by the association for on ward delivery to Royal Victoria Teaching Hospital.

Speaking on the occasion, President Jammeh expressed sincere gratitude to the association for the kind gesture. He said Operation Save a Baby has been successful due to the valuable contribution of the association over the years. He showered praises on the association for supporting sectors that are of great importance to his government. He therefore urged other institutions to emulate Gamtel/Gamcel Staff Association in their efforts to improve the socio-economic status of Gambians.

The CEO of Gamtel/Gamcel Rime Zulsman commended the association for their contribution to improve the welfare of Gambians especially women and children. The President of the association Alasan Gibba explained that the association has been created to take care of the welfare of the staff of Gamtel/Gamcel.

The Secretary of State for Basic and Secondary Education Fatou Lamin Fye thanked the association for its contribution over the past years towards the health and education sectors. She further lauded the association for being what she called a valued partner of government in nation building. The newly appointed Secretary of State for Communication and Information Technology Fatim Badjie applauded Gamtel/Gamcel Staff Association for complementing government in uplifting the health status of Gambians.

The spokesperson of the association Ramou Nyass Hydara said that her association has been in partnership with government in the realization of President Jammeh's noble objective of improving the lives of women and children especially the President's Empowerment program and Operation Save a Baby. She paid glowing tribute to the Gambian leader for his commitment to women empowerment citing the appointment of women in key decision making positions.
