The members of the commission of enquiry into Gamtel's fixed
fibre optic cable project on Thursday presented their report
to President Yahya Jammeh at State House.
The Justice Gibou Semega Janneh commission, which was sworn
in last year August, presented its report in three volumes,
comprising the analysis and conclusions in volume one, whilst
volumes two and three contain the physical evidence or exhibits
mentioned in the report.
President Jammeh thanked the commission members for carrying
out a difficult task, noting that it required members travelling
overseas. He said they had worked with diligence and patriotism,
and commended the chairman for his courage in taking over
from his predecessor, who left due to ill health.
The President also thanked all Gambians who cooperated with
the commission during the enquiry.
In presenting the report, the commission chairman said it
took around five months to collect evidence, including travelling
to Germany as part of their investigations.
Justice Janneh said they had the cooperation of all involved
during the public hearings, and he thanked his colleagues
and investigators for the work they put in. "I'm glad
that the report is completed", he declared and thanked
President Jammeh for the opportunity given them to serve the
country.
Communication Secretary of State Amadou Scattred Janneh,
commended the commission members for embarking on an honourable
task, and expressed his gratitude.
He noted that the report is comprehensive, and that the President
will be scrutinising it, particularly their recommendations.
