year 2007 presented to
President Jammeh

The Board of Directors of the Gambia Agency for the Management of Public Works GAMWORKS Wednesday paid a courtesy call on the President Alhaji Yahya Jammeh at State House.

Speaking on the occasion the outgoing Chairman of GAMWORKS Board of Directors, Mustapha Njie noted that much have been achieved over the past 12 months in the implementation of civil works. These he said included projects contracted from various Departments of State for construction of schools, health facilities, and public amenities among others.

The Director General of GAMWORKS, Ebrima Cham said the agency has registered success in the implementation of projects amounting to over 74 million US Dollars. These he said included two major projects namely the World Bank-Gambia Government funded poverty alleviation and capacity building project, and the Second Public Works Project financed by government for international development. Mr. Cham said the agency is currently working on the third Public Works project and the 9 Million Dollar Reconstruction Works of the Westfield-Sukuta road project.

The Secretary of State for Finance and Economic Affairs Musa Gibril Balla Gaye stressed the need for relationship between government and GAMWORKS to be restructured to enable government have a say in resources mobilization with regards to the implementation process of contracts with the agency.

In his speech, President Jammeh buttressed this view, noting that in as much as government negotiates loans for project implementation and wants value for these funds, it is equally important for government to know how these resources are used and accounted for. President Jammeh commended GAMWORKS for a job well done and called for more collaboration and partnership to enhance capacity building.

The Vice President Aja Isatou Njie Saidy also commended GAMWORKS for their performances and contribution to the infrastructural development of The Gambia.

The GAMWORKS Board of Directors presented a certificate and gifts to the President in recognition of his support to the agency.
