PRESIDENT JAMMEH
HANDS OVER 19 BUSES TO GPTC
|
11th March 2005:
GPTC the Gambia Public Transport Corporation has received 19
buses from TMB (Transports Metropolitans of Barcelona in Spain),
at a ceremony held at State House grounds on Friday afternoon
when President Yahya Jammeh handed over the buses to the management
of the national transport corporation.
The coaches are part of a consignment of 74 buses the government
acquired recently from Spain, and the President said their arrival
will ease the public transport difficulties currently being
experienced country-wide.
In handing over the keys to the GPTC board, President Jammeh
thanked the staff of the corporation for their loyalty and understanding,
especially during difficulty times. The President called on
all Gambians to help the GPTC in maintaining the buses, for
the benefit of all.
The Secretary of State for Works, Construction and Infrastructure,
Bala Garba Jahumpa, commended the Gambian leader for his support.
GPTC's managing director, Momodou Jagne, appealed to his staff
and the general public to help in maintaining the buses.
Jagne thanked his company's collaborators such as Trust Bank
and the shipping company, among others, who assisted the GPTC
in getting the consignment delivered on time. He promised President
Jammeh that he will do his best to complement the government's
efforts in nation-building.
