The President, His Excellency Sheikh Professor Alhaji Dr. Yahya Jammeh has introduced two new varieties of sweet potato and sugar cane to the farming in The Gambia. The varieties being experimented on a sizeable plot at the State House to vet their suitability on a tropical climate, have been harvested by The Gambian leader early Thursday morning.

The tubers took only four months to mature and will be made available to the farming community through the Kanilai Farms. This is testimony to President Jammeh's concern and interest in the development of Agriculture – the backbone of The Gambian economy.
