President Dr Yahya Jammeh, yesterday, commenced the treatment of 27 HIV/AIDS infected persons at the glass house in State House, Banjul.
The number brings the total to 36 infected persons, following the already proven success of the first batch of nine patients. The second batch of the 27 patients included three infants, who underwent physical and laboratory examinations.
At the start of yesterday's treatment, Dr Jammeh explained the conditions of the treatment to the patients, warning them to refrain from consuming caffeine, such as coffee, green tea, colanut, alcohol and sex during the course of the treatment.
The President also made stern warning on the use of Western or scientific medicine throughout the treatment period.
The Gambian leader was enjoined on his second batch of HIV/Aids treatment by Dr Tamsir Mbowe, Secretary of State for Health and Social Welfare and Dr Mariatou Jallow, Director of Health Services.
Representatives of international media houses, including Sky News, Associated Press Agency and the European Press Photo Agency, were later granted interview by the Gambian leader.
