A hundred and fourteen hypertensive patients lined up in Kanilai on Thursday, to seek treatment from President Jammeh. The second batch of patients followed the first batch of fifty five who started the treatment on August 23rd and were subsequently relieved of the disease. The patients told President Jammeh after taking the first dose of the treatment that they could now perform duties, they found impossible before the treatment. Lady Njameh Jawara, wife of former President Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara, was also in Kanilai on Sunday to seek the President's treatment.
Amie Samba was one of the patients who staged a performance before the Gambian leader, to show gratitude of being relieved of the disease that she has been struggling with for the past 20 years. This was an expression shared by all the patients.
Before the treatment began, President Jammeh would focus on the medication reciting verses of the holy Qur'an. During this period the President will instruct Dr Tamsir Mbowe to forward to the patients observations made on them. The patients would be called out during the consultation to safeguard the confidentiality of the effect of the ailment in them. The patients are then served the herbal dose to drink, which have immediate effects on them shown in different ways. Patients in the queue walked steadily to get the dose.
There were instant reactions from the patients, showing the effectiveness of the herbal treatment, which also reflected on the various blood pressure tests carried out on them. President Jammeh was shown the reading of Agi Amie Secka whose blood pressure level dropped from 173-113 to 91-50 after she took the herbal medication.
Sheriff Yusupha Hydara, a ward councilor in Medina Serign Mass and Sohna Fye of Ibo Town, could not have hide their emotions after taking the first dose of the President's herbal treatment. Hydara paid tribute to President Jammeh for providing cure for ailments regarded in western medicine as incurable. These in addition to other achievements, most particularly in his area, Hydara noted, distinguished President Jammeh from other leaders.
Haja Fanta Kinteh, was a secretary at the office of the president in the administration of the former Guinean President Sekou Touray. Kinteh, said she has travelled widely to seek treatment but had never came across a president who care so much about the well being of his people like the Gambian leader.
President Jammeh in his usual interaction with patients coming for treatment, shared with them a bit about some of the effects his medication might have on them. In assuring them that their blood pressures would stabilise in no time, President Jammeh warned patients not to underrate the power of the medication by trying to overdose themselves. He reaffirmed the effectiveness of the herbal medication.
The Secretary of State for Health, Dr Tamsir Mbowe, highlighting the effectiveness of the President's herbal treatment compared the readings of the patients' blood pressure test before and after taking the medication. The readings as expected showed a remarkable drop in the patients' blood pressures.
The Chief Medical Officer, RVTH, Dr Malick Njie, gave a captivating explanation of what the readings meant with regards to the patients' ailments. Dr Malick Njie said his office is currently handling a massive registration of hypertensive patients, whose turn out is impacted by the success registered in the first treatment. The Chief Medical Officer at the RVTH, told reporters that the patients' status as hypertensive has to be confirmed before being registered for the treatment.
Lady Njameh Jawara, the wife of the former President, Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara travelled to Kanilai on Sunday to seek President Jammeh's herbal treatment. Diagnosed as hypertensive while in England in 1996, Lady Njameh had to live with western medications for the past years, but had never been cured. Suffering from a sever form of the hypertension, which was inherited, Mrs Jawara never thought she could be cured. In a bid to maintain her health, she had to travel to England every four months, a situation, Njameh is confident will cease.
The gratitude expressed by all the patients that have sought the President's treatment is captured in the continuous scenes of prayers for the Gambian leader.
