DIALOGUE WITH THE PEOPLE TOUR 2006

President Yahya Jammeh, was on Tuesday, day 12, greeted by thousands of jubilant supporters and well-wishers, who escorted him on feet from Brikama to the State House in Banjul, upon his return from his ‘Dialogue with the People Tour' in the provincial areas.

A wave of supporters thronged the Serrekunda / Brikama Highway and accompanied the Presidential convoy to Banjul.

The escort swelled up as the Gambian leader passed by various towns and villages towards the Greater Banjul Area. Gambians rushed from their compounds like ants in decaying wood to receive President Jammeh and his entourage.

Supporters, who crowded both of the lanes of the Banjul / Serrekunda Highway, cheered up and composed a campaign slogan: “No election! We need Jammeh!” Some held up placards-bearing the pictures of the APRC-backed Presidential Candidate- while others milled the party's green flags in euphoria. Car horns and a mixture of praise songs were in full swing.

As a mark of appreciation for their support and solidarity, President Jammeh waved hand and dished out his campaign T-Shirts to the supporters in his Hummer Jeep vehicle, escorted by security and fleet of vehicles.

The supporters then crowded at the State House gate, affirming their support for Jammeh's third term presidency, after highly acclaimed achievements for the past 12 years.

About 36 meetings have been convened during the ‘Dialogue with the Peoples' Tour'. The tour has been characterised by mass defections of opposition supporters and the inauguration of new projects and other public facilities across the country.
