The President Alhaji Yahya Jammeh has again called on Gambians to vote for the APRC in the Friday polls. Speaking at mass rallies held on Tuesday in Kanifing South, Kotu and Faji Kunda, President Jammeh underscored the importance of this year's election, noting that Gambians have a choice to vote for peace and development against poverty and deprivation. He spoke at length his government's achievements in the past twelve years and promised to embark on more development projects during the next five years. President Jammeh told the people of Jeshwang constituency that government will address the issue of roads, electricity and water supply in the area before the end of 2011.
Addressing the meeting the APRC Mobiliser Yankuba Touray called on the people of Kanifing South, especially, the women, to vote for the APRC party. The Secretary of State for the Environment Edward Singhateh warned party supporters against complacency and urged them to vote on Friday. He urged the youths of Kanifing South to rally behind President Jammeh who have their interest at heart.
The Alkalo of Jeshwang Alhaji Karamo Sisay said President Jammeh's administration is characterized by development projects and therefore deserved a landslide victory. The Constituency Chairman Gibril Sanyang predicted 95% victory for President Jammeh. The National Assembly Member Honourable Mam Bai Secka said the people of Jeshwang constituency will vote massively for President Jammeh. Several people during the Kanifing South meeting defected from UDP to the ruling APRC. They included Aja Fatou Keita, Wontonding Jammeh and Kaddy Touray from Ibo Town and Jainaba Barrow from Old Jeshwang.
Addressing the Kotu meeting, the Gambian President pledged to address the electricity and water problem in the area and urged them to vote for the APRC party. The APRC Mobiliser Yankuba Touray also called on the people of Kotu to vote massively for President Jammeh on Friday. Also Speaking on the occasion the National Assembly member for Serrekunda West Honourable Sulayman Joof, assured President Jammeh of a landslide victory in his constituency. Several former UDP supporters were reported to have defected to the APRC.
At the Faji Kunda meeting, Lamin Saho who claimed to have defected from NADD with over 2,600 people assured President Jammeh of a landslide victory. Another defector from the UDP Muhammed Suso of Bundung borehole with over 200 followers also assured President of his support. The Alkalo Dodou Njie of Faji Kunda and the Acting Deputy Mayor of the KMC Yankuba Colley assured President of a landslide victory. |
