On day nine of his 'Dialogue with the people tour', President Yahya Jammeh on Saturday inaugurated a Multimedia and ICT station in Sapu, Central River Region. President Jammeh accompanied by the Taiwanese Ambassador Dr Patrick Chang toured the facility describing it as "very impressive".
The ICT station is sponsored by the International. Corporation Development Fund of the Govternment of Taiwan through the Taiwan Technical Mission. It is aimed at bridging the digital divide between developing countries and the outside world.
Similar projects already exist at the Dept. of State for Education and the Gambia Telecommunication and Multimedia Institute (GTMI).
Beneficiaries to the project are civil servants, teachers and their students. To ensure the successful realisation of the project, the farming community in Sapu would also be introduced to computer skills with particular emphasis on the Internet.
Jammeh grateful to Kabada
Continuing his tour, President Yahya Jammeh thanked the people of Kabada, a predominantly Fula settlement in Jarra West for what he described as their unflinching loyalty to the AFPRC/APRC government.
The Gambian leader made these remarks in a brief speech at a mass rally held at Jarra Soma.
According to him, the people of Kabada have always given an overwhelming majority of their votes to his government since the referendum of the Second Republic Constitution. He therefore, promised to do his utmost best to make them proud for their support to his government. However, the President said he would speak to the people of Jarra only after the September 22nd elections.
Speaking earlier, the SOS for Agriculture and APRC party National Mobiliser, Yankuba Touray, said what President Jammeh did for The Gambia, is unprecedented interms of development and the people of Jarra should take stock of developments in the area.
According to him, the Soma-Basse road will soon be reconstructed and power supply will be restored in the area as a new plant to provide electricity will soon be operational. SoS Touray warned the people of Jarra to maintain peace during the election period as they have reports that the opposition wants to instigate violence on election day and the APRC party will not idly sit and watch it happen.
Fatoumata Jahumpa Ceesay, nominated member of the National Assembly, thanked Jarankas for the warm welcome accorded to them and hoped that it would transcend into votes for the APRC party.
Momodou Soma Jobe, an APRC stalwart in the area, hailed President Jammeh for providing electricity to Soma and its surroundings. |
