President Jammeh receives mayoress of Milan
19th November 2008

The Mayoress of Milan in Italy Letizia Morrati Wednesday called on the President Alhaji Dr. Yahya Jammeh at State House. The visit followed her city's victory to host the Expo 2015 gathering. The Gambia was among countries that supported Milan's bid to host the universal event which is a showcase for cultural exchange as well as a forum to highlight crucial issues affecting humanity. The theme for the 2015 Expo looks at the protection of our planet for sustainable development.

Speaking during the courtesy call Mayoress Morrati expressed her city's desire to partner with The Gambia in key development sectors like Agriculture. She cited the President's interest in this area and said a lot could be achieved through a collaborative partnership especially for the hosting of the event.

For his part, President Jammeh commended Italy for being a true friend of The Gambia. He said Italy stood by The Gambia during difficult times. He further hailed Italy for assisting the African continent without any strings attached. President Jammeh used the opportunity to stress the love and importance his government attaches to agriculture as well as the attainment of food self sufficiency.
