President Yahya AJJ Jammeh has sent a letter of condolence to his Senegalese counterpart, Maitre Abdoulaye Wade, expressing his regret and deep sorrow upon learning of the sudden demise of Abbe Diamacoune Senghor, the leader of the Movement of the Democratic Forces in Cassamance (MFDC).

TEXT OF PRESIDENT'S CONDOLENCE MESSAGE

As we mourn the death of one of the illustrious sons of your country, I want to place a record that Abbe Diamacoune Senghor was the most moderate among the Movement of Democratic Forces in Cassamance (MFDC) and was much listened to by radical factions of this body. It is inevitable that his departure will create a leadership vaccum, and it will now be more difficult to reign in the radical elements.

In the spirit of unity and solidarity, and in our bid to ensure that all troubled regions in the world regain PEACE and HARMONY, I want to assure you that if there is any role that we can play in bringing a definitive solution to this long-standing problem, our doors are always wide open.

During this moment of grief, we should not despair, but should fervently pray to Allah, the Almighty to grant his soul eternal bliss and to give us the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss. Please accept Your Excellency and Dear brother, the assurances of my highest consideration and fraternal esteem.
