TEXT OF PRESIDENT'S CONDOLENCE MESSAGE

1st August 2005

OP 135/01/PART IV/(199)

Your Majesty and Dear Brother,

It is with great sense of sadness and deep sorrow that I learnt of the passing away of His Majesty King Fahd Ben Abdul Aziz AL Saoud of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques.

As you, the rest of the Royal Family, the Saudi Kingdom, the Islamic Ummah and the rest of the world mourn the demise of such a great leader, the Government and People of the Gambia join me in conveying profound condolences to the entire Royal Family, the people of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Islamic Ummah.

It is a fitting moment to recall that the late King Fahd has left behind an unforgettable legacy for the benefit of not only his people but also of the Islamic Ummah and the rest of the World at large.

Your Majesty, in this moment of grief for the Royal Family, the people of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the wider Islamic Ummah and the rest of the World, I together with the Government and people of The Gambia pray that the Almighty Allah in His infinite mercy grant the departed soul external bliss and give the Royal Family, the people of Saudi Arabia and the rest of the Islamic Ummah the strength to bear this irreparable loss.

Please accept Your Majesty, the assurances of my highest consideration.
