The President Sheikh Professor Alhaji Dr. Yahya A. J. J. Jammeh has received in audience an envoy of the Khalifa General of the Mouride sect of Senegal Serign Bara Mbacke.
The envoy, Sheikh Fallilou Mbacke Gallas heir apparent, conveyed gratitude and appreciation to President Jammeh for his donation towards the recent Ziyareh and for dispatching a government delegation to attend the annual religious commemoration in Touba. He informed the Gambian leader that the Khalifa General is very much aware of his stance in strengthening Islam and its teachings, as well as the esteem accorded Muslims and other religions in The Gambia. Sheikh Fallilou Gallas in the company of his brothers reiterated prayers for President Jammeh's realization of his drive to smoothen relations between The Gambia and Senegal.
The envoy presented Quranic books and various teachings of the founder of Mouridism – Sheikh Ahmad Bamba to President Jammeh on behalf of the Khalifa General.
Acting in response, President Jammeh thanked the Mouride community for answering to his call for assistance to harvest the produce of Kanilai Farms. "The response was overwhelming and cannot be compared to anything rendered to Kanilai farms in the past", revealed President Jammeh.
The President pledged continued collaboration with the Mouride community and expressed his desire to contribute even more to the annual Ziyareh (Maggal Touba). He also thanked his counterpart in Senegal President Wade for playing a pivotal role by extending his appeal for assistance to the Khalifa General.
President Jammeh acknowledged the true teachings of Sheikh Ahmad Bamba, and his overwhelming disciples and therefore extended an invitation to the Khalifa General to visit The Gambia. He also recommend religious leaders to devote more prayers for peace in the sub-region, most particularly between The Gambia and Senegal. "Our relationship has built understanding between the two governments". which President Jammeh said should be strengthened.
