PEGEP beneficiaries meet President Jammeh
3rd December 2009

One hundred (PEGEP) - The President's Empowerment of Girls Education Project beneficiaries on Thursday called on President Jammeh to register their appreciation for the impact he has made in their lives through the PEGEP Project that's invested in the education of more than 49,000 students both boys and girls cross the country from Upper Basic, Senior, Tertiary College to University to pursuit their educational dreams across the world.

President Jammeh recalled that in 1994 whilst addressing a gathering he was approached by three girls and a boy, just to seek his hand then one of them cried. When asked, she said she would not be able to realize her dreams because her parents are unable to afford to pay for her education. It was there that President Jammeh made it clear that the sky is the limit for education under his government.

The Minister of Basic and Secondary Education Fatou Lamin Faye described the gathering as a historic one pointing out the interaction between the youngsters and the President, which manifests the caring and sharing attitude of Gambians. Minister Faye thanked President Jammeh for giving his full support to the education for girls.

Deputy Minister for Agriculture Momodou S. Kah expressed happiness and said education should be preclude to discipline, loyalty and dedication to one's nation and thanked the President for encouraging and grooming tomorrow's seeds.

Sheriff Abba Sanyang the Director of PEGEP dilated on how the project changed the lives of more than 40,000 youths who attained university education.

Kaddy Jabbi, a beneficiary thanked the Gambian leader for uplifting the standards of the girl children. She also said PEGEP has saved many girls from early marriages.

Lamin Fatty and Musa Trawally, on behalf of beneficiaries thanked President Jammeh and PEGEP for making education affordable, accessible and acceptable to all Gambians.
