2004:

The Banjul Committee of Elders have expressed gratitude to the President of The Republic Alhaji Dr. Yahya A.J.J. Jammeh for facilitating the recent pilgrimage to the Holy City of Mecca by three Banjulians representing the Capital City. The three pilgrims are Aja Oumie Sarr of Hagan Street, Alhaji Lamin Fatty of Pignard Street and Alhaji Sainey Jobe of Haddington Street.

In a letter addressed to President Jammeh, the Council's Chairman, Alhaji I.A.S. Burang John prayed to the Almighty to shower abundant blessings, guidance and protection on the President towards achieving his "lofty aims and inspirations".

The Chairman also prayed that the year 2004 be a happy and prosperous year for the First Family, government and the people of The Gambia.

According to Deputy Imam Burang John, the selection of the three representatives was done in consultation with committee members of the three Banjul Constituencies and stakeholders.
