Railway Line, Housing Estate projects presented to President Jammeh

The Arena Group from Spain in collaboration with BatiGroupe of Senegal on Tuesday presented two draft proposals to His Excellency the President Sheikh Professor Alhaji Dr. Yahya Jammeh at his office.

The proposed projects were presented by the Sales Director of Arena Group Mr. Juanfe Serrano which includes a master plan for railway line and a housing estate. According to the Minister of Works and Infrastructure Honourable Lamin Bojang, he highlighted that the railway line is in two phases. Phase one is the passenger line that will ply from the capital City Banjul via Serekunda, to the Airport and Brikama.

Minister Bojang further highlighted that the railway will be constructed alongside the main highway linking Banjul, Serekunda and Brikama whereby they will extend the embankment to accommodate the railway line and in some areas properties will be acquire.

Phase II will be the provincial line which will go upcountry and will be use as a freight line that will accommodate goods from Banjul to the provinces vice visa and later according to the works Minister will extend the services to be a sub regional network that will serve Kafring and Tambakunda in Senegal and to Mali.

The Housing Project, the developers are currently working on with the Social Security and Housing Project for the proposal of 800 units in Jabang village if completed will accommodate many Gambians.
